Luis Suárez could train with Barcelona in two weeks after CAS hearing set

The Guardian reveals that Luis Suárez will appear before the court of arbitration for sport on 8 August as Barcelona seek to have the Uruguay forward training with them in little over two weeks.

CAS has summoned Suárez to appear at their headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, after it agreed to fast-track the appeal against his four-month ban from all football-related activity for biting Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup in Brazil. The case will be dealt with at an “express” hearing, with a decision likely just a few days after Suárez and Barcelona present their case.

If the appeal is successful, the 27-year-old could train start with his new team-mates as early as mid-August, although his suspension from playing is almost certain to be unaffected.

As things stand he is likely to make his debut against Real Madrid on the weekend of 25 October.

Fifa upheld Suárez’s four-month ban at the beginning of July after an appeal by the player and the Uruguayan football federation, but it confirmed that the ban will not stand in the way of any transfer and he completed his move from Liverpool to Barcelona the following day.

Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué believes an “angry” Suárez will be desperate to prove himself when he returns to action.

“I expect that he, like anybody who has the possibility of having their work taken away from them, will be feeling rage,” Pique said.

“For the time being he has to wait,” added the Spain defender. “When he returns he will be full of desire to show that he is one of the best forwards on the planet.”

Steven Gerrard: I told Luis Suárez he was too good for Arsenal

Steven Gerrard has said he understands Luis Suárez’s desire to join Barcelona and added that he was pleased the striker did not sign for Liverpool’s Premier League rivals Arsenal last summer. The Liverpool captain also feels that Liverpool would have been favourites for the title this season – had Suárez stayed.

“I would have been really sad and disappointed to see Luis go to Arsenal. With all due respect to them, I said to him that he was too good for Arsenal. I said if you score 30 goals for us and win the PFA player of the year, the press player of the year – I knew he was going to win them – I told him Real or Barcelona will come for you.”

Gerrard added that Suárez had earned his dream move by working hard day in and day out in training and during matches. “I’m disappointed to see him leave now but I am happy for him that’s he has got what he wants and deserves. Since day one he has been phenomenal in training every day and in the games. I think he got the wrong advice last year from people around him, from people saying he needed to play in the Champions League and it did not matter who it was for.

“I have experience of the Spanish clubs myself and I know if you play well they will come back and come back. I knew they’d be back for him as well. I just thought for his own sake, to get respect off the Liverpool fans, he had to give us at least one year. A lot of people might still think he should have given us one more, but my big dream was to play for Liverpool, and the foreign players’ big dream is to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona, that’s a fact.”

Fernando Torres is staying in Chelsea

There had been rumors about a possible transfer from Chelsea to Atletico Madrid, the striker's first club. However, in an interview with SkySports, Chelsea's current manager, Jose Mourinho, said Fernando Torres is not going anywhere.

"We have a good squad. The perfect squad would be with this 18 players, not 17 or 16, but rules are rules and we are working hard, even here, for not to have these kind of problems in the future.

"We want to have more English players in our squad which we are going to have in the future but in this moment we are still in the middle of this process.

"So at the moment we have to make a decision about one player not to be on that list.”

When asked whether that player was Torres, he answered:

"No. Three strikers is fundamental in a squad and we have three strikers; Fernando, Didier and Diego so one of them is not going for sure,"

One of the World Cup's hottest commodities this year has finally chosen a club to play for. He was playing as a free agent during the Cup after his contract with Ajaccio expired last season, and now the Mexican Ted Mosby is moving from France to Spain. There is no doubt that Ochoa will clinch the #1 keeper position as Malaga lost theirs to ManCity. Malaga will introduce Ochoa in a news conference this Friday, August 1.

According to a FIFA report, during a PSG-Red Bull Leipzig pre-season friendly:

"When Ibra was subbed during PSG’s 4-2 defeat, opposite captain Daniel Frahn rushed over to get his No10 jersey, only to have his request politely denied by the 32-year-old. “Sorry, but I have promised it to this young man,” said Ibrahimovic as he handed the shirt to Frahn’s new strike partner Terrence Boyd."

As a result, the captain and his teammate got into an argument over the disrespect (really because both wanted his jersey) but Zlatan saved the day because-

"Fortunately for all involved, as Boyd was apologizing, in walked Ibrahimovic – with another of his jerseys for Frahn.

"I had a second, dry jersey with me,” said the Malmo native. “The captain can have this one."

Hummels-Man-Utd

Arsenal vs Manchester United transfer fight over Mats Hummels' signature set to kick off

Arsene Wenger wants to be kept informed about the availability of Mats Hummels.

The Gunners are ready to challenge Manchester United for the signature of the Germany World Cup winner.

United boss Louis van Gaal has been making all the running for Borussia Dortmund defender Hummels and, despite insistences from his club that he is going nowhere, there is a belief that the player may be available for £30million.

And it is understood that the Londoners will not allow the Old Trafford giants' interest in the 25-year-old to go unchallenged.

United are also keen to sign Arsenal centre-half Thomas Vermaelen, who is wanted by Barcelona, too. The Belgian, rated at £10m, will also be a free agent next summer.

But Wenger still has serious money to spend this summer and is prepared to make at least two more major signings after the captures of Alexis Sanchez, keeper David Ospina and full-backs Calum Chambers and Mathieu Debuchy.

He wants to sign a world-class central defender if Vermaelen leaves and is aware that Hummels could become available.

Van Gaal, who intends to play with three at the back this season, wants to bring in two central defenders.

But Arsenal would be able to give Hummels the attraction of Champions League football this season – and they could yet beat United in the race to sign him.

Arsenal-Colombia-Quintero

Arsenal 'in talks to sign Colombia star Juan Quintero

Arsenal have opened talks with Porto over a deal for Colombia midfielder Juan Quintero.

According to reports in Colombia, Quintero is flying to London on Monday to finalize the deal, with the Gunners ready to pay £15.8 million.

However, the player's agent, Ricardo Calleri, insists Arsenal will have to meet Porto's £31m buy-out clause.

The 21-year-old was in Jose Pekerman's Colombia World Cup squad that reached the quarter-finals in Brazil.

He came off the bench in their second group game against Ivory Coast, scoring the goal that put Colombia 2-0 up, and started their 4-1 win over Japan.

One of Colombia's most reliable journalists, Diego Rueda, has supported the reports of Arsene Wenger signing Quintero, tweeting: "It's a real possibility that Juan Fernando Quintero will play with Arsenal. He would be coming to London on Monday. Wish is realized".

Quintero's arrival could signal the departure of Santi Cazorla, who has been linked with Atletico Madrid.

Cazorla, though, is keen to stay at the Emirates. He said: "My objective is always Arsenal. I have played for Arsenal for two years and I continue to play for Arsenal. They are the only club I think about.

"I want to lift as many trophies as possible with Arsenal and help them as much as I can.

"Winning the FA Cup took a lot of pressure from us. Winning a trophy after nine years relieves you, and leaves you to play with a bit more freedom. It is easier then to play even better than the year before. We would like to win trophies this year again."

Arturo-Vidal-Man-Utd

Juventus have reaffirmed their desire to keep hold of Arturo Vidal, stating they'll only listen to offers if the Manchester United target overtly makes it known he wants to leave.

New boss Massimiliano Allegri revealed he has held talks with the 27-year-old and that he has committed his future to the Serie A club.

But director general Giuseppe Marotta revealed they wouldn't stand in the Chilean's way if he did decide the time was right to move on.

'(Arturo) Vidal? We already said that he is not on the market, but the player's will is decisive,' said Marotta.
'Vidal has never said he wants to leave, and Juventus will sell him only if he were unhappy to remain.
'Nowadays, however, there’s absolutely no reason to even be discussing this now.'

Lamela-Atletico

Diego Simeone Gives Form To Erik Lamela Dream with €27m Bid for Tottenham Winger

Atletico Madrid have made a bid of €27m to sign Argentine winger Erik Lamela from Tottenham Hotspur.

Los Rojiblancos boss Diego Simeone, who led his club to their first Spanish league title since 1996 last term, is a firm fan of Lamela and believes his countryman is set for big things.

Simeone has written off the winger's lacklustre first season in England as a blip, with Lamela having joined Tottenham just last summer from Roma.

And now, according to Italian broadcaster Sportitalia, Simeone's men have lodged a bid of €27m for Lamela.

Tottenham are thought to be cool on the bid, but so keen is Simeone on having Lamela at his disposal next term, that the Argentine tactician will urge Los Rojiblancos to make a new bid if the winger cannot be secured for €27m.

Lamela has interested clubs in Italy this summer, but sides from Serie A lack the financial firepower to cause Tottenham to have genuine pause for thought over keeping the winger.

The 22-year-old cost Tottenham a fee of €30m plus bonus payments to sign last summer from Roma.

Tottenham plot £45m transfer splurge on Morgan Schneiderlin and Wilfried Bony

Tottenham are planning a £45million double swoop for Morgan Schneiderlin and Wilfried Bony.

The White Hart Lane club's new boss Mauricio Pochettino knows midfielder Schneiderlin from his time in charge at Southampton.

But Tottenham’s first approach has been rebuffed, so they will go back in this week with an improved offer of close to £20m.

Schneiderlin has made it clear he wants to go but the Saints value him at £27m.

Tottenham will also step up their pursuit of Bony.

Swansea manager Garry Monk has said it will take “an astronomical offer” to make them part with the Ivory Coast international.

Bony joined Swansea from Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem last summer and scored 35 goals in 48 matches for the Welsh outfit.

ALL HAIL LORD STARK AND THE CHILDREN OF THE NORTH. (Germany U19 squad)

People of Winterfell ONTD-FB, I present to you Lord Niklas Stark.

On July 31st, Germany won the U-19 European Football Championships against Portugal. The young hope of FC Nuremberg Niklas Stark was involved as captain of the team in this success significantly.

Eighteen days after Philipp Lahm lifted the World Cup Trophy in Brazil, the Ipsheimer Niklas Stark lifted the European U19 Cup in Hungary. The youngster scored in the first round an important goal that secured a spot in the match against Serbia. The decisive goal in the final was the one scored by Hany Mukhtar of Hertha Berlin. The 19-year-old defender ensured his team remained in four of five games without conceding a goal with his defensive chain.

This talent is one of the many fruits of youth work in German football. "Nik has been at the club since he was nine years old and is a true home-grown talent. His development is also an example of our good young talent and also serves as a model for our many talents in the team." says Martin Bader, Head of Sports & Public Relations at FC Nuremberg. Despite a long injury break and just 24 Bundesliga appearances, Niklas Stark is for coach Valérien Ismaël, an integral part of the team and this should create more chances for a promotion.

Also, the national coach Joachim Löw praised the team's performance and their coach, Marcus Sorg: "I'm very happy for Marcus Sorg and his boys. Many congratulations to all who have contributed to this success. The team played a great tournament, the EM has shown that the German football can look forward to great new talents. This title helps players in their development, I'm sure they will get through this triumph again a boost."

SOURCE (in German)

There's a bevy of talent and possible future royalty on this team. From David Selke, Levin Öztunali to mini-Ser Jerome Kevin Akpoguma, I hope we can see some of these guys at Euro 2016 and World Cup 2018.

Arsene Wenger complains about Frank Lampard loan, but Jose Mourinho says he has 'no problem at all'

Arsene Wenger has raised question marks over Frank Lampard’s shock move to Manchester City, but Jose Mourinho insisted that the former Chelsea man would be welcome back at Stamford Bridge.

The 36-year-old will join the Barclays Premier League champions on loan until January as he looks to maintain his fitness ahead of next year’s MLS season.

Lampard has signed a two-year contract with emerging MLS side New York City FC, but the club do not enter the American league until March 2015.

video at the source

Manchester City, New York City FC and Melbourne City are all owned by holding company City Football Group.

The company also have a minority share holding in Japanese club Yokohama Marinos.

Lampard could be important to Manuel Pellegrini in the Champions League given he counts as a homegrown player.

City must include five homegrown players in a restricted 21-man squad in the competition after they failed Uefa’s Financial Fair Play test.

And Wenger, whose side face City in the Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday, admitted: ‘Lampard’s move to Manchester City is a surprise as after the statements we heard, it looks like all these “City” clubs will feed the main club.

‘I heard they want to buy five clubs all around the world. I don’t know the rules well enough.

‘They bought the New York franchise for $100m in the States to play next season and at moment the players they sign cannot play until next year.

‘They will register in the clubs where they will put them and they can get out on loan. Is it a way to get around (financial) fair play? I don’t know.

He added: ‘Would Arsenal do that? We are happy to dedicate the money we make just to run our club as there is not a lot of surplus to buy other clubs.’

However Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said he had no hard feelings towards the club legend, and that he was welcome to join any club.

‘He is a free agent he can choose his club so I have no problem at all,’ Mourinho said.

‘When he comes to Stamford Bridge he is welcome. When he comes to the Emirates…. He is at the Emirates. There is no problem.’

Meanwhile, Thomas Vermaelen is unwilling to sign a new contract at Arsenal, edging him a step closer to the exit door.

The Gunners captain’s contract expires at the end of the forthcoming season and the club had been keen on offering him fresh terms.

But the Belgium international does not want to open talks about extending his contract.

Unless Arsenal sell him in the current transfer window, it means the central-defender can sign a pre-contract agreement with an overseas side from January.

Arsenal do not want to sell their captain this summer, but also want to avoid the possibility of losing him for nothing next year.

Barcelona, Manchester United and Napoli all have a firm interest in Vermalelen.

Arsenal would prefer to sell Vermaelen abroad rather than to United, which will prove a difficult stumbling block to overcome for Louis van Gaal.

The Gunners snubbed an initial £7million enquiry from United earlier this summer.

And with Arsenal expecting Barca to make their move for Vermaelen in the coming days, the Belgian’s future could come to a head sooner rather than later.

Vermaelen missed Sunday’s 1-0 Emirates Cup defeat to Monaco with a hamstring injury, and it seems unlikely that he will play for the club until his immediate future is resolved. Midfielder About Diaby is also being managed through a hip complaint.

Radamel Falcao scored the winner for the Ligue 1 club at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Schweinsteiger 'the logical successor' to Lahm, says Beckenbauer

$

The former defender believes the Bayern midfielder is the clear candidate to take up the armband for the national team over team-mate Manuel Neuer or Dortmund's Mats Hummels.

Bastian Schweinsteiger is "the logical successor" to Philipp Lahm as Germany captain, according to iconic former defender Franz Beckenbauer.

Lahm opted to retire from international football after leading his side to World Cup glory in Brazil this summer, having first taken up the armband for the finals in 2010.

Schweinsteiger was vice-captain to his Bayern Munich team-mate in Brazil and Beckenbauer believes the 30-year-old is the obvious choice to take up the armband.

"Schweinsteiger for me is the logical successor to Philipp Lahm," he told Bild. "He's a leader, he won a lot of sympathy for his incredible versatility in the World Cup final.

"The whole team is raised by such a fighter. And, as deputy to Lahm, he knows the captain's role already."

Beckenbauer feels Mats Hummels would be the ideal deputy to Schweinsteiger, while he claims Manuel Neuer would not be the correct choice given his position on the pitch.

"[Hummels] should be vice-captain to Schweinsteiger. Neuer is a great personality, but a coach prefers an outfield player as they can better influence the action," he added.

He's been in Ibiza for the past few days, looking very hot.

Manchester United v Liverpool: $1 million on offer to winners in Miami but bragging rights worth far more

The victors of Tuesday morning's clash between Manchester United and Liverpool will earn $1 million in prize money as Louis van Gaal's men look to position themselves as 'America's team'.

The appetite for English clubs to play in the US is growing at a rate of knots, with the success of this summer's International Champions Cup underlining the burgeoning interest in the Premier League.

United, Liverpool and Manchester City have played in front of sell-out crowds - a total of 311,105 fans have watched United's four games so far on tour - while Arsenal's encounter with New York Red Bulls also generated huge interest.

As a result, United have already been invited back to the US next summer, with the club ready to accept the offer.

However, while $1m (£590,000) will further boost Van Gaal's war chest, the financial rewards are secondary to those on the pitch when Liverpool are the opposition.

Darren Fletcher, who has captained United during their four-game tour, believes the clash against Brendan Rodgers's men will provide an accurate gauge of the team's progress under Van Gaal.

"We have just beaten Real Madrid, the European champions, and we now want to go on and beat Liverpool," Fletcher said. "That is the sort of thing that gives the squad confidence and shows how far we have come."

Only a couple of hundred invited guests turned up at the Sun Life Stadium to watch United's final training session in America.

The session was more of a warm-down as they only played Real Madrid on Saturday night.

Rodgers, meanwhile, believes Miami will play host to the "biggest club game in the world" as he looks to end Van Gaal's unbeaten run as United manager in the States.

He said: "It's more than football. It's life. It is two cities, not very far apart, but historically they have always been huge rivals.

"It's arguably the biggest game in the world and for it to be here in the United States is wonderful for the supporters and the organisers. They are the two biggest clubs in Britain and two of the biggest in the world so it will be a fantastic game and we are looking forward to it.

"Not many of these games are friendly. You saw the Manchester City game was competitive. Top players see every game as a competition. There are never too many friendlies playing for Liverpool. The game on Monday will be equally competitive."

BREAKING NEWS | Xavi Hernández announces he quits the Spanish National Football Team (@SeFutbol)

----

He was capped 133 times, more than any other Spanish outfield player, and scored 13 goals.

He told a press conference in Barcelona: "I'm grateful for all those years. It has been a fantastic time."

Xavi said: "I was going to retire after Euro 2012 but head coach Vicente del Bosque persuaded me to stay on and go to Brazil which was of course a huge disappointment for everyone and myself individually.

"After Euro 2012, it was generally understood I was going to be leaving after Brazil 2014. I hope Del Bosque stays as manager as Spain because I don't think there is a better man for the job.

"I want to thank everyone involved in that team for the way they treated me and the respect and I could not wish for a better time as an international."
