Liverpool F.C.: You'll Never Walk Alone

$

Liverpool Football Club is also known as the Reds and they're famous world wide for being one of the most successful and supported clubs in England. It has won more European trophies than any other English team with five European Cups (we won it five times!), three UEFA Cups and three UEFA Super Cups. Its history has made football history and its songs are recognized all over the world.

Anfield

Built in 1884, it was original the home of Everton F.C. before they moved due to a dispute over rent. In 1906, the Kop was born. It's a bit old, but filled with history. The tunnel that leads to the pitch has a red sign that reads "THIS IS ANFIELD" and when the teams go trough it while the Kop sings its heart out, it becomes one of the most impressive stadiums in the world.

The Kop

This is where the most intense Liverpool fans once stood and now sit. The Kop is such a strong part of the club, that it was said the Kop could suck the ball into the net.

Our Gates

The stadium features tributes to two of the club's most successful managers. The Paisley Gateway is a tribute to Bob Paisley, who guided Liverpool to three European Cups and six League Championships in the 1970s and '80s. The gates were erected at the Kop; their design includes representations of the three European Cups Paisley won during his tenure, the crest of his birthplace in Hetton-le-Hole, and the crest of Liverpool F.C. The Shankly Gates, in tribute of Bill Shankly, Paisley's predecessor between 1959 and 1974, are at the Anfield Road end. Their design includes a Scottish flag, a Scottish thistle, the Liverpool badge, and the words "You'll Never Walk Alone".

History

Liverpool F.C. was founded following a dispute between the Everton committee and John Houlding. After eight years at the stadium, Everton relocated to Goodison Park in 1892 and Houlding founded Liverpool F.C. to play at Anfield. Originally named "Everton F.C. and Athletic Grounds Ltd", the club became Liverpool F.C. in March 1892. The team won the Lancashire League in its début season, and joined the Football League Second Division at the start of the 1893–94 season. After finishing in first place the club was promoted to the First Division.

In 1966, the club won the First Division but lost to Borussia Dortmund in the European Cup Winners' Cup final. Liverpool won both the League and the UEFA Cup during the 1972–73 season, and the FA Cup again a year later. Bill Shankly, the appointed manager, retired soon afterwards and was replaced by his assistant, Bob Paisley.

Bill Shankly wearing a scarf a fan threw at him
“(I was) made for Liverpool (where) the people that matter most are the ones who come through the turnstiles”— Shankly

In 1976 the club won another League and UEFA Cup double. The following season, the club retained the League title and won the European Cup for the first time. During Paisley's nine seasons as manager Liverpool won 21 trophies, including three European Cups, a UEFA Cup, six League titles and three consecutive League Cups.

Paisley retired in 1983 and was replaced by his assistant, Joe Fagan. Liverpool won the League, League Cup and European Cup in Fagan's first season, becoming the first English side to win three trophies in a season. Liverpool reached the European Cup final again in 1985, against Juventus at the Heysel Stadium. That’s where the lowest moment in Liverpool history happened.

Heysel Disaster

Before the kick-off of the European Cup final between Juventus and Liverpool, fans breached a fence which separated the two groups of supporters, and charged the Juventus fans. The resulting weight of people caused a retaining wall to collapse, killing 39 fans, mostly Italians. The incident became known as the Heysel Stadium disaster. The match was played in spite of protests by both managers, and Liverpool lost 1–0 to Juventus. As a result of the tragedy, English clubs were banned from participating in European competition for five years; Liverpool received a ten-year ban, which was later reduced to six years. Fourteen Liverpool fans received convictions for involuntary manslaughter.

In 2010, a plaque for the fans that died in the disaster was unveiled.

Heysel

It's one of two permanent memorials in Anfield. The other one is for the Hillsborough tragedy.

Hillsborough

In an FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest on 15 April 1989, hundreds of Liverpool fans were crushed against perimeter fencing. Ninety-six fans died. Liverpool players and staff were accused of being the cause of the tragedy.

Days after, The Sun used “THE TRUTH” as their headline and sub-headlines that said "Some fans picked pockets of victims", "Some fans urinated on the brave cops" and "Some fans beat up PC giving kiss of life”. The story accompanying the Sun headlines claimed "drunken Liverpool fans viciously attacked rescue workers as they tried to revive victims" and "police officers, firemen and ambulance crew were punched, kicked and urinated upon". A quotation, attributed to an unnamed policeman, claimed a dead girl had been "abused", and that Liverpool fans were "openly urinating on us and the bodies of the dead”. These allegations contradicted the behaviour of many Liverpool fans, who helped security personnel stretcher away a large number of victims and gave first aid to many of the injured. After The Sun's report, the newspaper was boycotted by most newsagents in Liverpool and many readers cancelled orders and refused to buy it from newsagents.

On the 20th anniversary of the disaster, government minister Andy Burnham called for the police, ambulance and all other public agencies to release documents that had not been made available in 1989. This action led to the formation of the Hillsborough Independent Panel, which in September 2012 concluded that no Liverpool fans were responsible for the deaths, and that attempts had been made by the authorities to conceal what happened, including the alteration by police of 116 statements relating to the disaster. The conclusion that the police had been responsible and had tried to blame innocent fans prompted immediate apologies.

Trevor Hicks, chairman of the Hillsborough Family Support Group, rejected the apology of Kelvin MacKenzie, then-editor of The Sun, saying it was "too little, too late”. The sales of The Sun remain poor in Merseyside and a boycott is still practiced today. Its articles are not published on Liverpool's official website. Posts with The Sun as the source are also banned in ontd_football. (really? yes, really)

Kenny Dalglish, former Liverpool player, was the manager at the time. He was replaced by another former player, Graeme Souness. Under his leadership Liverpool performances slumped resulting in his dismissal in 1994. Souness was replaced by Roy Evans, and Liverpool went on to win the 1995 Football League Cup Final. Third place finishes were the best the team could manage, and so Gérard Houllier was appointed co-manager and became the sole manager after Evans resigned. In 2001, Houllier's second full season in charge, Liverpool won a "Treble": the FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup.

Houllier was replaced by Rafael Benítez at the end of the 2003–04 season. Liverpool won the 2004–05 UEFA Champions League, beating A.C. Milan in one of the most exciting football matches in European football history.

3–2 in a penalty shootout after the match ended with a score of 3–3

American businessmen George Gillett and Tom Hicks became the owners of the club during the 2006–07 season. The club reached the 2007 UEFA Champions League Final against Milan, as it had in 2005, but this time Liverpool lost 2–1. During the 2008–09 season Liverpool finished as runners up to Manchester United.

In the 2009–10 season, Liverpool finished seventh in the Premier League and failed to qualify for the Champions League. Benítez was replaced by Fulham manager Roy Hodgson. At the start of the 2010–11 season Liverpool was on the verge of bankruptcy and the club's creditors asked the High Court to allow the sale of the club, overruling the wishes of Hicks and Gillett. John W. Henry bid successfully for the club and took ownership in October 2010. Poor results during the start of that season led to Hodgson leaving the club by mutual consent and former manager Kenny Dalglish took over. He didn't last much, after finishing in 8th position in the 2011–12 season, Dalglish was sacked. He was replaced by Brendan Rodgers. In 2013–14 Season, Rodgers second season in charge, Liverpool returned to the UEFA Champions League after finishing second behind Manchester City.

Callaghan holds the record for most appearances. He played in Liverpool from 1960 to 1978.

King Kenny Dalglish

PA-10303963

He was a Liverpool striker from 1977 to 1991. His great partnership with Ian Rush brought the team many victories. While still a player, he became manager of the team and what he archived with Liverpool made him a legend. He quit in 1991, only to come back 18 years later.

Ian Rush: The greatest goalscorer in Anfield history

Ian-Rush

Goals, goals and more goals. 346 to be exact. It actually took nine games for him to score for the first time, but once he did, he didn't stop. When it was announce that he would leave the club to go to Juventus, a futile "Rushie must stay" campaign began. His stay at Juventus, however, was not very successful so Rush ended up coming back. "It was like living in a foreign country" he joked.

He got himself a twitter a few days ago.

We All Dream Of A Team Of Jamie Carraghers

jamie_carragher_2563483b

Former Liverpool Vice-captain, Jamie Carragher retired last year after playing 17 years for Liverpool. He's a one-club man and even though some might have thought they need subtitles to understand his scouse accent, after retiring he decided to pursue a broadcaster career. These days he has a column in the Daily Mail and answers questions on twitter.

Michael Owen

owen640

Michael Owen played for Liverpool. He also played for Real Madrid, Newcastle United, Manchester United and Stoke City. He began playing in Liverpool's youth team and went to celebrate his 17 birthday by signing a professional contract with the club. He left for Florentino Perez's team in 2004.

Steven Gerrard Gerrard, he's big and he's fucking hard

Steven-Gerrard-003

Liverpool's current captain and another one-club man. When he was five years old, his cousin passed away in the Hillsborough tragedy and it drove him to become the player he is today. He was spotted by the club when he was nine years old. Eight years later he signed his first professional contract and in 1998, he made his debut. The rest is a history of love between him and the club he inspires. Recently he retired from international football so he could focus solely on Liverpool.

Xabi Alonso

xabi-alonso_1448834c

If you heard the term Gerlonso around this place, it's because Xabi's romance partnership with Gerrard was so amazing, it got its own name. He played for Liverpool from 2004 to 2009 when he left to Real Madrid.

Kop Songs

Fields of Anfield Road
"All round the Fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play
We had Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
Of the glory round the Fields of Anfield Road"

Justice for the 96
The song was made to remember the ones lost in the tragedy of Hillsborough and demand the truth about the police to be told. In 2007, when Arsenal and Liverpool met for the FA cup, the Kop sang Justices for the 96 for six straight minutes.

You'll Never Walk Alone

Originally written by Rodgers and Hammerstein in 1945 for the Broadway musical Carousel, only became a terrace favourite after it was covered by Gerry and the Pacemakers in November 1963. Almost immediately - as footage from Panorama in 1964 shows - Liverpool supporters adopted it. Nowadays it's the most recognize football chant in the world. Even Pink Floyd song "Fearless" features Liverpool fans singing it.

Liverpool vs Manchester City - You'll Never Walk Alone

Liverpool fans have also enjoyed singing to the rhythm of the Beatles.

Our Rivals

Chelsea
you This rivalry ain't got no history

In recent years, an intense rivalry has started between the two clubs due to having had to play each other in so many occasions. When in 2010, Fernando Torres left Liverpool to go to Chelsea, it was notreceivedwell.

Everton
Our local rival

The rivalry with this blue team it's the complete opposite when it comes to history. Known as The Merseyside derby, it is the longest running top-flight derby in England, having been played at that level since the 1962–63 season. It’s also known to be one of the most ill-disciplined and explosive fixtures in british football.

Once upon a time it was a friendly rivalry, known for being one of the few top league derbies that didn’t segregate fans due to how common it was for a family to have fans of both teams. In the 80s, things changed it became much more intense, however relations improved after the Hillsborough disaster when both sets of fans rallied together, with Evertonians even joining in on the boycott of The Sun while Everton and Liverpool scarves were intertwined stretching across Stanley Park between Anfield and Goodison Park (Everton's stadium). Recently, after the murder of 11-year-old Evertonian Rhys Jones in a gun crime incident in 2007, Liverpool Football Club invited the victim's parents and older brother to Anfield for a Champions League match. The Z-Cars theme tune Johnny Todd, the song to which Everton traditionally run out, was played for the first time ever at Anfield while the victim's family stood on the pitch wearing Everton shirts and scarves. A standing ovation was given before You'll Never Walk Alone was played. Upon the complete vindication of Liverpool fans at the Hillsborough disaster in August 2012 Everton entertained Newcastle United at Goodison Park. The sides were lead out by two children wearing Everton and Liverpool shirts with the number 9 and 6 on the back. An announcer read out the names of all the 96 victims while He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother by The Hollies was played to a standing ovation.

Manchester United
Who the f*ck are Man United?

One of the most successful England teams along side with Liverpool, together they have won 121 honors.

The most recent meeting was on March 6th where Liverpool won 3 - 0.

Even the players get intense about these rivalries. United striker Wayne Rooney, a product of Everton, described how he grew up hating the Reds, while Liverpool's Steven Gerrard took a film crew on tour of his home where he showed off a collection of football shirts he had swapped with opposing players as part of the after match routine; he pointed out that there were no Manchester United shirts in there and that he would never have one of them in his house.

Fans: 84,362

Starting:

Match events:

7' Welbeck opens up Galaxy's defense like a book. But shoots directly into Peneda
9' Galaxy get themselves a chance, meanwhile. Ishizaki does well to exploit space behind Shaw down the right flank and he fires a low cross in towards the penalty spot for Zardes, but the forward's first-time effort is struck straight at De Gea.
13'GOAL!!! The first goal of the Van Gaal era and Manchester United is scored by Danny Welbeck! Mata pounced on a poor pass and, after being bundled to the ground about 25 yards out, Welbeck hits the loose ball with a first-time effort, sending it in off the left-hand post.
21' Decent attempt by DeLaGarza as the left-back charges forward and then cuts inside, before shooting from about 25 yards. De Gea, however, gets down to his right and saves easily.
23'Foul called when Rooney elbows Meyer in the face. Unfortunately Meyer comes out bleeding.
27'Herrera continues to star in this contest. The Spaniard has produced countless very classy touches so far and his link-up play with Mata is really good. Its going to be interesting to see how they will ink up once the season starts.
31' Galaxy has a good link up play as Robbie Keane is slipped into the area, but he is unable to latch on to the pass, partly because of Jones. Keanes protests wanting a penalty, but the referee ignores him
33' Leonardo trips up Welbeck as he has a clear run at goal. Freekick United.
41'PENALTY TO UNITED! Valencia causes problems down the right and charges into the right side of the Galaxy area, getting to the byline and digging a cross out. His delivery, however, hits the hand of DeLaGarza and the referee points to the spot.

GOAL ROONEY!!!

43' Wayne Rooney keeps his cool to fire United into a two-goal lead in Pasadena this morning. Antonio Valencia did well to win the penalty, galloping down the right flank before his cross was ajudged to have been handled by defender Baggio Husidic, and Rooney's inch-perfect spot-kick proved too good for Penedo. Van Gaal's side cruising now.

45' GOAL ROONEY!!!!

Mario Gotze and Andre Schurrle are still reaping the rewards that come with winning the World Cup.

The Germany internationals both played important roles for Joachim Low's side as they claimed glory in Brazil, Schurrle with goals in the second round and semi-final and Gotze with the winner in the final.

Bayern Munich attacker Gotze's travels have taken him to Formentera in Spain where he enjoyed a mud bath with lingerie model girlfriend Ann-Kathrin Brommel.

Gotze is more renowned for his silky skills on the pitch but Pep Guardiola will be encouraged to see he is willing to get dirty too.

The 22-year-old sported a black Nike cap while Brommel carried a football.

He had previously been spotted celebrating in Ibiza after rounding off a memorable summer of international duty at Germany's homecoming in Berlin.

Schurrle, meanwhile, aped his Germany colleague by holidaying on a private yacht in Ibiza.

The Chelsea attacker has not returned to domestic duty with the Blues yet due to his involvement in Brazil but looks certain to play a big part as Jose Mourinho continues moulding a side he feels are capable of challenging for the Premier League.

Los Merengues are back and they are ready to take the upcoming season by storm (LA LIGA IS OURS FOR THE TAKING!) Balotelli Rumor

$

0

After Balotelli was photographed posing in front of the Gunners' logo on July 18th, rumors started swirling around that this was his next destination. With some even adding that Puma's sponsorship of Balotteli and being the maker of Arsenal's kit, they could help foot the bill.

"Arsenal's brand new kit sponsors will reportedly help the club fund a big money deal to sign Mario Balotelli at the end of the season. But amid talk that his giant price has put Arsene Wenger off making a bid, Puma are believed to have stepped in to offer an alternative."

Besides his £5mil (after taxes) salary demands, there are concerns about Balotelli's antics-I think everyone knows but for any newcomers:

-his temper, remember mancini? boban? prandelli?
-driving into the woman's prison
-fireworks incident
-not a consistent player

Here is Mourinho speaking about Balotelli at Inter:

"Mario got a yellow card in the 42nd minute, so when I got to the dressing room at half-time I spend about 14 minutes of the 15 available speaking only to Mario. I said to him: ‘Mario, I cannot change you, I have no strikers on the bench, so don’t touch anybody and play only with the ball. If we lose the ball no reaction. If someone provokes you, no reaction, if the referee makes a mistake, no reaction.' The 46th minute – red card!" (Can't stop laughing)

But there are definite upsides to his personality and skill on the pitch:

-he's flashy

-he's 23 and has won Serie A, the Coppa Italia, the Champions League, the Premier League and the FA Cup

Galliani, Milan CEO has denied receiving any bids from Arsenal but people are now saying that a transfer Balotelli for Campbell is nearing. ARSENAL WOULD BE IDIOTS but yeah...if this is true, as crazy as Wenger is about professionalism how would he even control Balotelli? And to lose Campbell??

PICSPAM:

The 36-year-old has signed a one-year contract with the club and admits Jose Mourinho was a key factor in his decision to return to Stamford Bridge

Chelsea have completed the signing of Didier Drogba on a one-year contract.

The 36-year-old returns to Stamford Bridge having left in 2012 after winning the Champions League.

Drogba, who featured for Ivory Coast at the World Cup earlier this summer, has scored 157 goals in 341 appearances for Chelsea and has also won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and two League Cups with the club.

Welcome back, @didierdrogba! http://t.co/WBjRzdFueR #CFC pic.twitter.com/S2lPNYxwwx
— Chelsea FC (@chelseafc) July 25, 2014

“It was an easy decision,” Drogba told the club’s official website.

“I couldn't turn down the opportunity to work with Jose again. Everyone knows the special relationship I have with this club and it has always felt like home to me.

“My desire to win is still the same and I look forward to the opportunity to help this team. I am excited for this next chapter of my career.”

Drogba is reunited with Jose Mourinho after working with the Portuguese for three years before his departure in September 2007.

“He’s coming because he’s one of the best strikers in Europe,” said the Chelsea manager.

“I know his personality very well and I know if he comes back he’s not protected by history or what he’s done for this club previously. He is coming with the mentality to make more history.”

Adam Lallana injured his knee in training and will miss up to six weeks of action, Liverpool confirmed on Friday.

The Reds acquired the 26-year-old midfielder from Southampton earlier this month in a deal believed to be worth up to 25 million pounds, but their new player will miss the start of the season.

Liverpool said Lallana "sustained a knock to his lateral collateral ligament during a session at the Reds' Harvard University training base in Boston."

The injury will not require surgery, the club said.

Lallana, who played for England at the World Cup earlier this summer, will undergo further tests both in the U.S. and England.

"Louis van Gaal to speak with Jose Mourinho over Luke Shaw"

The Chelsea manager criticised Manchester United's deal to sign the teenager from Southampton but the new Old Trafford boss refused to hit back at the Portuguese in public
Louis van Gaal says he will speak to Jose Mourinho privately after the Portuguese claimed signing Luke Shaw would have “killed” Chelsea.

The Red Devils paid £27m to acquire the 19-year-old left-back from Southampton, agreeing to pay him a salary of £160,000-per-week, while the Blues pulled out of any prospective deal after learning of the teenager's demands.

Mourinho instead signed Filipe Luis from Atletico Madrid in a £16m deal and took a swipe at United on Friday, telling reporters: "To pay a 19-year-old boy what we were being asked for, for Luke Shaw, we are dead.

"We would have killed our stability with financial fair play, and killed the stability in our dressing room."

Van Gaal, however, refused to bite back in public, instead revealing that he will speak with the Chelsea boss in private.

“I don't have to answer, I don't think I have to discuss things with the media. Its better to discuss it with Jose,” he told reporters in the build-up to United's pre-season clash with Roma.

Shaw made his United debut in the club's 7-0 win over LA Galaxy in midweek, featuring as a wing-back in Van Gaal's 3-5-2 formation.

The Dutchman's second game in charge comes against the Serie A runners-up on Saturday and Van Gaal slammed the scheduling of the fixture, admitting he will attempt to persuade the referee to allow a drinks break – as seen in the World Cup.

“It is unbelievable that we play at two o’clock,” he said. “We will adapt to the situation because all the players will play for 45 minutes except [Tom] Cleverley.

“For the players, it is very hard and I hope I can persuade the referee to have a drinks break as I did in Fortaleza [when Netherlands played Mexico].

“We have a sports science department and it shall be done very well with the conditions, especially those players who will play 45 minutes.”

Okay, I just saw this on Tumblr so I don't know if it's true, but apparently there will be another documentary on the successful World Cup journey of Die Mannschaft called "The Golden Trophy - the journey to the 4th star". It should be released in autumn.

PLEASE LET THIS BE REAL.

By the way, for those who haven't seen it, below is Deutschland. Ein Sommermärchen, the great documentary about the German team of '06. There are English subtitles. If you're a fan of Die Mannschaft and Schweinski, it is a must watch.

Transfer season has already shuffled a lot of people around. Here are the chosen ones so far for Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United.

Arsenal

Alexis Sanchez
Chilean national team player, he'd been playing in Barcelona before the transfer. Last season he scored 21 times for the Catalans and he's 25 years old.

Mathieu Debuchy
French national team player, he has been bought from Newcastle United. He's 28 years old and usually plays as right back. He's also a good friend of Olivier Giroud.
footballers

Calum Chambers
This English 19-year-old plays right back in Southampton (a club that has been selling a lot of people!). Rumor has it Arsenal and Southampton have already agreed on a deal.

Chelsea
Cesc Fabregas (lol)
He was Arsenal's captain and after one of the longest transfer dramas in football history, he went to play for childhood club Barcelona. Now he's at Chelsea as a replacement for Frank Lampard.
Fabregas-new

Diego Costa
This Spanish footballer is coming from Atlético Madrid where he played as a striker. He's 25 years old and even though he was born in Brazil, he was granted the Spanish nationality in 2013.

Didier Drogba
You know him and he's back. Didier Drogba is back Stamford Bridge, reunited with former manager Jose Mourinho.

Liverpool

Lazar Marković
20 year old winger from Benfica, he once got into a fight during a Juventus game while he wasn't even playing.

Adam Lallan
Bought for £25,000,000 from Southampton. He just got injured.

Rickie Lambert
England striker was dropped by Liverpool when he was still a youngster. He went to play for several clubs, the most recent one being Southampton. Playing for Liverpool was always his dream: "I have always dreamt of playing for Liverpool, but I did kind of think the chance of playing for them had gone. I didn't think the chance would come."

Emre Can
German 20-year-old midfielder coming from Bayer Leverkusen, the move was completed on July 3th. He plays in Germany U21.

Dejan Lovren (Rumor has it he'll complete medical this weekend)
Coming from (you got it!) Southampton, he's a 25 year old defender. Earlier this summer, he said he's head was at Anfield and was criticized by Southampton manager. “You should keep this information within the club and not in the press,” he said. “That was not a good thing on his side".
lovren_2913993b

Loic Remy
French 27-year-old striker, he's coming from Queens Park Rangers F.C. and the deal is pretty much done. He might be unveiled after the weekend.

Mancherter United
Vanja Milinković
Serbian Under-17 international goalkeeper, at only 17 years, he's 6ft 7! He will be allowed to stay with his current club FK Vojvodina next season before arriving at Old Trafford in the summer of 2015.

Ander Herrera
Spanish midfielder is part of the Spanish U23 squad. He was bought for £29,000,000. Manchester also tried to sign him last year. He played in the team's victory over LA Galaxy on Wednesday.

Luke Shaw
Coming from Southampton! He plays left-back and was part of England nation team this World Cup. He was signed for £30 million, a world record transfer fee for a teenager, which was previously held by Wayne Rooney.

Di Maria to Manchester United?

$

Di Maria is amazing, anyone who watched him slaughter Bayern Munich in the semi-finals can attest to that, but he's being completely wasted at Real Madrid. He tore through Bayern Munich in both legs of the semi-final, and in the final he was awarded Man Of The Match as Los Blancos beat their city rivals Atletico Madrid to win their 10th European crown.

But for one reason or another, the Argentinean doesn't appear to be wanted at the Santiago Bernabeu. Subsequently, a host of European football's most illustrious have been linked with a move for the 26-year-old, including Manchester United.

PSG is United's competition as far as bidding for Di Maria but BEin Sports is reporting that United are close to signing him, the reason this might be true is that BEin and PSG are owned by Qatari companies and that they would have the definite info. Add to that, PSG is hesitant to spend Di Maria's 49 mil (esp after signing David Luiz). It's kind of a stretch...but not by much.

if he doesn't, i'll still stan in secret

PARADE FOR THE WELTMEISTER!!!!!

So, the World Cup ended but the celebrations were not over! Because the day Die Mannschaft returned to Germany with the Cup, there was the big parade for the champions (of the world).

Now, the Germans are brilliant in a lot of things: cars, football, beer, Lufthansa, etc,. But their parades are truly something else. Take one of those Thanksgiving parades they have in America, but amp it by x1000 and you get a German parade. That's how much fun they are. And they certainly did not disappoint in welcoming their team home.

WARNING: Loads of pictures!

It began in Rio. Lufthansa (bless them) had the Siegerflieger ready. They got a freakin' 747 for the team. Here's a nice fact: It's also the 1,500th 747 ever made by Boeing. (Sorry, I'm a plane nerd as well)

[Aside: Continuing my plane nerdiness, here is a special 747 painted by Boeing for the American handegg football team, the Seattle Seahawks who won the Super Bowl this year. For those who don't know, Boeing's main factory and headquarters are just outside Seattle.]

Die Mannschaft waved goodbye to Jester Poldi's adopted homeland.

Look at them. Look how sad they are. Özil looks downright depressed. Doesn't he always though?

Btw, I found this gif of Özil and for some reason, I can't stop laughing. I think it's that wispy mustache. Thank god he had the sense to shave it off.

There was a cockpit invasion!

Of course, it was Poldi.

Inspired by Poldi's remarkable enthusiasm, the King decided to take a cockpit pic as well. He was more a chill king and less a mad child though.

As did Ser Jerome.

Maester Jogi (screw it, I'm gonna start calling him that.) also got in on the cockpit action.

Let's be real, those pilots only allowed the booger-eating Maester in so that they could hold the Cup.

Several hours later....

They were back!

Lahmpoleon came out first with the Cup. It was only then we noticed that it was nearly half his height.

Then there was some bush-bash waiting.

And this motherfucker ruined things for us.

Seriously, he should be arrested for being that goodlooking. (Judging from that casual pose, the guy knows it too.) Bonus: bandaged Schweini!

For those who complained about Özil's bug eyes, he granted your wish by covering them altogether. What a thoughtful Baron.

We were treated to some awesomely shitty music. More specifically, this:

For those who don't know, Boney M. was a disco group from West Germany in the 1970's who sang mostly terrible music (which dominated the birthday parties of my childhood, thanks my disco loving parents) but were responsible for these unbelievably awesome songs:

Also, the guy behind Boney M was responsible for that other noteworthy act, Milli Vanilli.

Anyway, getting back to the matter on hand!

German broadcasters fought for viewers by using former footballers/princes as bait.

ARD had Prince Arne! Oh, Arne. Stop it.

While, ZDF had Prince Thomas Hitzlsperger!

They were on the truck!

And...it was selfies galore.

Özil was determined to beat Poldi in the Tourney of the Selfie. (Özil sis, you know that's NEVER gonna happen.)

But Poldi did not give up.

Screen Shot 2014-07-27 at 2.38.51 PM

Ser Jerome tried to worm his way into the competition too!

Fetus Draxler had a drink. And the world stood up and screamed, "Bad child!" before realizing that he is not a 14 year old.

Screen Shot 2014-07-27 at 2.09.09 PM

Özil's so good at expressing his emotions. (screaming at that feeling happy afterthought)

The Peasant King/Hero of Deutschland looked extra dumpling-like that day.

Now, here's a fun fact about the Peasant King: he is a devout Christian. I'd like to think that's true but this unforgettable picture proves otherwise:

I'm gonna be mean here and say that he is literally a dumpling in this picture. He knows it too!

See?

I sincerely hoped this would happen (and for the Peasant King to be the culprit):

But unfortunately, life was just a little cruel to us that day.

Taken in the bus truck before: Pretty Boy Erik Durm and a dumpling. Bonus: Archduke Miro in the background!

The useless Prince Hummels was more interested in taking pictures of things other than himself. Seriously, dude. Can't you be a little more self-absorbed than that? You know the world would love it.

I mean, even Mustafi was at it!

Screen Shot 2014-07-27 at 2.29.33 PM

BFG and Duke Beni:

Fetus, stop trying to be a badass. You may be a Weltmeister but it's just not gonna work.

Some random scenes:

Because I feel like it:

While all this was going on, we were screaming, "WHERE IS THE KING?!" But he was hiding away from the cameras, behaving like a true King, i.e., drunk.

His pupil, Weidenfeller, was pretty much drunk too.

This kid was not happy to be there.

This is a beautiful photo:

Okay, German broadcasters, you want more viewers? All you have to do is zoom in on the guy on the right. I repeat, the guy on the right. That tall, handsome one who looks like a Dumas prince. Got it?

And one with the Peasant King (downsized to avoid the massive peasant vibes):

And they reached the Brandenburg gate!

The crowd. I pity those who couldn't pee that day.

Here's a nicer picture:

The King finally showed his face!

The Commander/Future Emperor took a break. Poor guy really needed it.

Prince Arne graced us once again with his princely presence. (He's like Capitano - aging very well.)

Prince Hummels relaxed.

The visitor's book (?) was signed and then some guy named Andreas Bourani sang a song.

Then...it was dorkiness time!

Maester Jogi, Hansi, Bierhoff and the great Köpke came out!

Bierhoff, Jogi and Hansi were like our dads when they decide to channel their inner rockstars. Endearing but also ridiculously embarrassing. (Of course here, people just wanted that.)

Then it was house #1 led by none other than BFG.

BFG did real white boy dancing.

THESE DORKS.

Managed to get a clip:

Poldi did his bit for the Gunners.

House #2 came led by Archduke Miro and the Peasant King. They did their Gaucho dance which apparently caused some controversy.

[ASIDE: Okay, so the Peasant King is a year older than me but he looks so much like a dumpling/brick that I always forget. So when I heard him speak, it was jarring because I fully expected a 15 year old's cracking voice!]

Clip:

This was a lovely and also, quite a sad moment.

We're gonna miss him so much:

House #3 was led by the King. Schweini lay low.

Look at this King just strutting around like he owns the place.

The Fetus showed the world that he had a great sense of humor (at the expense of Kevin 'Döner' Großkreutz, of course).

Jumping King:

They really saved the best for the last:

It was at this point we realized that these guys were pretty much mentally stuck in 1998.

Only thing missing from this NSYNC realness was actual NSYNC music.

Lahmpoleon cradling that Cup like a baby dancing!

Wouldn't be an epic cheese fest without some air guitar, courtesy (who else?) Troll Müller:

And on top of that, he just had to dance with the Cup.

He's so many things: mind-numbingly talented footballer, Academy Award worthy actor, troll and the ultimate dork. PEOPLE WHO HATE HIM HATE EVERYBODY.

And no, he doesn't look like Toby from Pretty Little Liars. Keegan Allen wishes he were half as cool as Thomas.

Full Clip:

Then, some chick named Helene Fischer sang a song. I didn't know who she was until the parade day. The Internet tells me that she's not worth knowing about. (Understandable, since footballers like her. They do have terrible taste.)

But for those interested, here's a clip below. It gives me major secondhand embarrassment (though Troll Müller is worth watching).

He was really drooling all over her.

Of course they did a conga. Why wouldn't they?!

But why can't he be with me?!

Okay, BFG's face is just killing me.

He really is a mad German.

SuperManu!

He really was like Superman considering how much he had to drink.

I mean, come on!

The Internet clearly went nuts with this one.

In fairness though, he's really working that prep school hotness.

Mustafi and the Troll dancing. The Troll clearly upstages Mustafi here.

Some Duke Beni:

With Concussion Kramer, (okay, that was mean) who I hope is okay.

"I wanna play! Gimme!"

The Fetus and Zieler:

Hömmels, sharing a tender moment.

DORKS.

Gotta add Shirley No Eyebrows; I keep forgetting about that guy.

Screen Shot 2014-07-27 at 7.17.51 PM

He just looked really hot here.

And for those who were about to complain about the lack of Schweini:

It was really an emotional day for him.

It's amazing how he's matured from a cocky, bratty punk to a calm, measured, intelligent leader. And I daresay, he looks better as he gets older. Got a bit of an Anderson Cooper look to him.

I can't wait for him to be the next Emperor (captain).

At the end, Pretty Boy was like this:

While Hummels was like this:

We may not like Helene Fischer, the Carrie Underwood look-alike but we do love the man she's standing next to.

Finally, he took a selfie!

And Schweini was home.

NEVER FORGET:

Edit: The screen caps are here thanks to dinozarruh.

I can't believe that's it. I feel like crying now. Lahmpoleon thanks you for your time!

P.S: Is that Kellan Lutz with the Peasant King in this gif?! (If it is, they're perfect for each other.)

Have fun.

In other news Rémy's move to Liverpool fell through because the player failed the medical.

AND - and these are no football news - for the first time ever a handicapped athlete beat the non-handicapped. It happened yesterday at the German Track and Field championships at the long jump and is now the German Long Jump Champion.
