What, FIFA is a corrupt organization? Well, I never!

Mourinho hints at Coach of the Year award fix
The 50-year-old did not attend the gala to unveil the recipient of the managerial honour in January, and he has now set the record straight behind his absence.
José Mourinho has attacked the voting process behind crowning the winner of the 2012 Fifa Coach of the Year prize.
The Real Madrid boss was named as one of the final three candidates for the managerial accolade in November, but intimated that he would not be attending the award ceremony, citing his side's Copa del Rey commitments.
However, in a television interview due to be aired on Tuesday, Mourinho suggested that the real reason for his absence was due to the irregular nature of how the votes were counted in determining the recipient of the honour.
"Do I regret not attending the [Coach of the Year] gala? No, it was the right decision," he told Record.
"They called me more than once. Two or three people said they voted for me but they appeared in another vote so I decided not to go."
Spain's Vicente del Bosque was ultimately announced as the Coach of the Year following La Roja's Euro 2012 success.

This interview will be broadcast tonight by RTP (Portuguese public television) at 21h GMT. I've already watched a small preview and will watch the whole thing when it airs. I'll add my impressions and/or any relevant additional info later.

Update: Read the comments for more info on the interview's content (courtesy of

Absolutely no news whatsoever

One of the world's most respected referees has claimed UEFA rigs the draws for its European competitions to ensure the bigger clubs do not meet until the latter stages.
The accusation was made by Ahmet Cakar, a former international referee, on a popular television programme in his native Turkey.
Cakar claimed that "UEFA manipulated the draw for both the Champions League and Europa League". During the Champions League last 16 draw in December, the practice draw corresponded exactly with the real one.
The Turkish official also claimed that the football icons who carry out the draw carry metal objects in their hand which pick up vibrations in the balls as they bounce around the pot, and thus know exactly when to draw each ball to ensure the most exciting ties possible.
According to the former official, UEFA general secretary Gianni Infantino was surreptitiously moving a lever next to the pot of balls during last week's draw, indicating underhand activity.
Those implicated in Cakar's accusations also include former England footballer Steve McManaman and ex-Newcastle United striker Patrick Kluivert, who presided over the respective draws last week.
Cakar, regarded as Turkey's most controversial football pundit, claimed UEFA rigs the draw to ensure the maximum possible interest in the semi-finals, and keep teams from the same country apart until the latter stages.
La Liga rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid were kept apart in the draw, both being paired with Paris Saint Germain and Galatasaray, while the German duo of Borussia Dortmund and last year's runners up Bayern Munich face Malaga and Juventus.
His claims echo those of Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who has previously claimed UEFA manipulates the draw with the top continental clubs in mind.
UEFA has yet to comment on the accusations.

Yet one more accusation affecting UEFA or FIFA no one will do absolutely nothing about.
Kevin-Prince Boateng against racism
(I highlighted the most important lines)
‘Madame Pillay, High Commissioner for Human Rights, esteemed colleagues and experts, ladies and gentlemen.
‘What we have just seen on video occurred on January 3 at Busto Arsizio in a friendly match between my club Milan and a Fourth Division side.
‘I decided to stop the game and kick the ball into the stands as I felt profoundly angry and offended by the racist insults directed at me from the stands.
‘That gesture alone would not have had any particular resonance. My team-mates, however, immediately followed me off the pitch without a moment’s hesitation.
‘The fact the entire team had taken such an equivocal step against racism made news headlines the world over. That’s why I’m here today. It’s an honour for me to have the chance to speak here today.
‘Ladies and gentlemen, we are in the year 2013 and racism is still amongst us and is still a problem.
‘It’s not simply an argument for the History Channel or something that belongs to the past or something that only happens in other countries.
‘Racism is real, it exists here and now. You can find it on the streets, in your office and in football stadiums.
‘There have been moments in my life when I didn’t wish to face the problem. I tried to ignore it as if it was a headache that would sooner or later go away. I just had to wait.
‘That, however, is an illusion. It won’t go away by itself. We have a duty to face racism and to fight it.
‘The concept “a bit racist” doesn’t exist. There are no tolerable quantities of racism. It’s unacceptable regardless of where it happens or the form that it takes.
‘It’s also something that goes beyond black and white. There are many different types of racism from people of different colours and nationalities.
‘There is no vaccine to fight this and no antibiotics to take. It’s a dangerous and infectious virus which is strengthened by indifference and inaction.
‘When I played for Ghana, I learned how to fight malaria. Simple vaccines are not enough. You also have to dry out infected areas where the carriers proliferate. I think that racism and malaria have a lot in common.
‘Stadiums can be places where people of different colour come to support their teams or they can be seen as stagnant areas where healthy people will be infected by racism. We can’t allow this to happen before our very eyes.
‘Football stadiums, like other places, are full of young people. If we don’t fight the stagnation, many
of those who are healthy today, could become infected with one of the most dangerous diseases of our time.
‘Those of us constantly in the public eye have more responsibility. We can’t allow ourselves to be indifferent or passive.
‘Many sportsmen like myself and my team-mates, artists and musicians all have unique chances and responsibilities to make themselves heard. We have the possibility to reach the parts that political speeches will never reach.
‘History shows us how important the contributions of famous athletes can be. I can say that the fact that the President of America shares my skin colour, has something to do not only with Martin Luther King, but also Muhammad Ali.
‘One of the most intense and moving moments of my life to date was when I met Nelson Mandela during the World Cup in South Africa in 2010. An incredible man, both in subtlety of mind and character.
‘His life has shown that making your voice heard against racism is less dangerous than remaining mute.
‘It’s just as important to stand up to racism today as it was in the past. We have to find inspiration from those who have risked their lives for the cause.
‘I’m convinced that it would be a fatal error to believe that we can fight racism by ignoring it and hoping that it’ll go away like a headache. This won’t happen.
‘In any moment when our paths cross with racism we have the duty to rise and to act. Thank you for listening.’

Philipp Lahm... diplomat?
It is rumored that Angela Merkel requested the Bayern Munich player's presence, as he has international experience from working with various charities and has been recommended by the previous Chancellor of Germany. Unfortunately, this means he will not be available to play in the upcoming Championship League match against Juventus. The club may be protesting this.
When asked to comment, Lahm just smiled and said "I appreciate the opportunity." It is rumored that Lukas Podolski will help him settle in to London living.
When asked to comment, Merkel simply smirked and said "I'm sure he'll do a good job. He takes great interest in international affairs. In the meantime, I am speaking to Schweinsteiger about stepping up his game while Lahm is away."
